Lettuce Seed Variety Short Description:

Baby Combo - An interesting blend of baby leaf lettuce types in greens and reds. Ideal for salads. Ideal for small space gardens.

Butter crunch - With its light green nutty flavoured leaves, this loose-leafed lettuce makes the salad.Good in warm climates. Rarely runs to seed.

Cos - Sweet yet piquant flavour. Quite distinct from normal lettuce with thicker, crisper leaves. Upright and cylindrical, forming tall, loose heads.

Endive Green Curles- Related to chicory and radicchio, endive has a slightly bitter flavour that adds interest to salads, or can be cooked like spinach. This variety has fine, frilly leaves.

Frilly Mix- TBA

Great Lakes Iceberg - Is a large, solid-hearted variety, crisp and sweet. Endures summer heat without running to seed. A must for summer salads.

Greenway Iceberg - Has been specially bred by Yates for our warm summer conditions. A large crispbread style variety, it is ideal for summer salads. Plants are resistant to downy mildew.

Mignonette Brown - An easy to grow, hardy variety. The small heads are crisp, tender with a pleasantly sweet flavour. Can be grown in pots or containers. Excellent variety for decorative borders.

Winter Triumph Iceberg - A cool-weather variety, with a dark green, compact head. Large and full of flavour. Ideal for winter harvest.

Yatesdale - Produces uniform attractive dark green heads. Good disease resistance and slow bolting, making it ideal for summer cropping. Developed by Yates for local conditions.

Sow: Sow direct where they are to grow. In cold areas best grown in pots in sheltered spots. Cover lightly with Yates Seed Raising Mix, firm down and keep moist.

Care: Plant in a well-drained, sunny position adding Yates Garden Lime and Yates Blood & Bone to the soil before planting. Water regularly and apply Yates Thrive Soluble Plant Food weekly. Make successive sowings every few weeks. Water at base of plant, rather than overhead, to minimise risk of disease. Protect from snails and slugs with Yates Blitzem.

Hint: Great companion plant for beans, beets, carrots, cucumbers, onion, peas, radish and strawberries.

Lettuce 'Buttercrunch.'

With its light green nutty flavoured leaves, this loose-leafed lettuce makes the salad.Good in warm climates. Rarely runs to seed.

Position: Full sun.

Sow: Direct into growing position or raise in trays of Yates Seed Raising Mix. Transplant when 3-4cm high.

Care: Plant in a well-drained, sunny position adding Yates Garden Lime and Thrive Granular All Purpose Fertiliser to the soil at the time of planting. Water regularly and apply Yates Thrive Soluble Fertiliser weekly. Successive plantings give best results. Protect from snails with Yates Blitzem. Water at soil level, rather than overhead, to minimise the risk of disease.

Endive Green Curled

Care: Grow in sun or semi-shade. Enrich soil with organic fertiliser (such as Yates Blood & Bone or Dynamic Lifter) before planting. Feed plants regularly with Yates Thrive Soluble Plant Food. Continuous harvest promotes new growth. Protect plants from snails and slugs with Yates Blitzem.

Hint: Good watering and fertilising will prevent leaves from becoming too bitter.
